Applied Math field trip martes 8/5 Arturo's trip for lunch miércoles 9/5 En clase: -Terminamos de leer "Un día de estos" Tarea: Hacer ¿Comprendiste? questions jueves 10/5 En clase: -Revisamos ¿Comprendiste? -Exam review - big concepts: - the idea of "other" - what is an "other", examples in our country, examples from our readings, Carlos Fuentes' universal question "How do we deal with the 'other'" -indigenous populations -Chicano movement coming out of this idea -Adolfo Miller challenging/flipping stereotypes -Bolivia - African slaves - multi-cultural reality of the Hispanic world - Indigenous, European, African influences, how European, specifically Spanish, is in itself multicultural and therefore adds that much more to the mix - tie this to our country, Latin America populations in the US and Bolivia - The idea of the "Latin Craze" (Bill Teck, Generación Ñ) Latinos coming into a place of being recognized for what they add to the US, tiny movement away from the "other", but disadvantages being all latinos perceived as the same, fitting them more into the "other" category - How prominent latinos and latinoamericanos challenge the idea of other, stereotypes, how they feel about and display their feelings about their culture viernes 11/5 En clase: -Exam review - Why are the past, present, and future important in the study of the Mundo 21? -Be able to apply how the past, present, and future are important specifically to the context of at least one of the groups we have studied (latinos in the US (or breakdown to mexicano-americanos, puertorriquenos, o cubanoamericanos), Bolivia(ns))
